a few more from Holden Beach

Well Irene has come and gone and headed to the big apple now, but I have a few more from Holden for ya!

Sea Island

After a little paddle around this morning sliding and slipping all over the knee high leftovers we had.  I thought my day was done before going to work later on tonight.  Blair called, said fun waves were to be had for Sea Island and so I made my way down to capture some of their antics.  The boys were joined by Keenan, they had fun and I slowly cooked in the sun! enjoy......

Here's Blair!!!

I'd like to introduce you to Blair Wheeler.  Blair is a local here in Myrtle Beach and works for Mark Allison at Surf City and rides for him too.  When not tossing buckets on his white diamond, he can be found providing financial support to Subway and loaded on double shot coffee.  The Kid's caffeinated for sure!!!  Word has it he loves cats!!!! hehehehehe

Sunday morning Pawleys Island

We drove down to Pawleys this morning and had fun little waves in the thigh high range.  Blair had some fun at the groins after we had muddled through the south inlet for about an hour.  Loaded with coffee,  speeding through little sections, there were fun waves to be had!!

been a few days

It's been a few days since I posted as I've been a little busy with some softball tourney shoots and other work.   Thought I'd put up some wishful thinking for waves and what not.

small wave heavy wind

We have had a little wave here the last two days and today seemed like a good time to test out a 2X teleconverter with the sigma 18-200mm.  I sat a little further back up on the dunes and seemed to get used to it as the boys were catching punchy little waves.

Earl in Ocean Isle

The surf city crew and I made the pre-dawn trek to OIB on 9/2 and found easy 6 to 8 foot clean faces with drifty conditions.  The swell kept building as the morning went on but after 12 it hit hyperdive and by high tide became a little too sketchy for anyone.  Blair, Lance, I, and one other guy were the only guys out and after 2 or 3 waves had drifted about a mile down the beach.  It was a long walk with longboard in the wind.  The last 2 pics are from Sunset later in the day.  Earl was exactly as forcasted, I have 2 halves of a longboard to show.

Hello Earl

So we awoke to extreme flatness this morning but as you can see by 9:30am we already begun to see chest high sets.  The tide and wind weren't exactly cooperating with each other and finding a shoulder was hard as the morning went on.  Should be up again tomorrow or further north.

you say you're gonna paddle into that?

if you did not know, I also work at a local eatery from time to time and a guest last night posed this question to me as we were talking about my escapades in the water and how excited I was that a storm was in our region. not wishing any storm to make landfall but only produce some swell, he just did not understand how someone would paddle into rough water, a golfer, I had to ask him how he feels when hits that sweet spot and the ball just flys down the fairway and explain I get that same feeling riding a 6 foot glassy wall of a left hand swell!   hopefully we'll have some swell in our driving distance all week!
