Katia's bowl of leftovers

I rode back up to Carolina Beach, last Friday am for a little longboard leftovers from Katia.  She just kept on giving us swell!!!  There were chest high glassy nuggets coming in when we got there right after sunrise and it didn't die off til around noon.  Needless to say me and the boys from Surf City Surf shop had some fun riding everything from mini simmons to longboard.  I did get out and take some pics as well!!! Looks like me and some of the Surf City boys will be heading up that way or a little further again tomorrow.   enjoy.......     Katia gallery

Katia kept right on giving!!!!

I'm still going through pics from my trips to Carolina Beach.  I was up there Wed. through Friday am.  Whole lotta fun!!!  Had a blast taking pics of all the young guns going off.  Katia has a sister brewing out there right now and lets hope that Maria can give us a little something like Katia did!!!  Not sure why the link has problematic but I have an open guest link to my flickr for now on the previous post.  enjoy......

Katia's a Shacky kind of girl!!!!

The Surf City crew and I made our way to Carolina Beach for early morning wave riding.  Katia did not disappoint.  There were crowds from all over the Carolinas and more.  The line-up was spread out up and down the beach though.  Waves were in the shoulder to head high range with an occasional over-head la bomba coming for all to have fun with!!  Enough of the talky talky, here's the digital proof!!! enjoy......    Katia at Carolina Beach

Come on Irene

Irene has gotten closer and closer to us here in the Carolinas and hasn't dissapointed these past two days.  She's a big girl with a big push!!  Lots of water moving around up in Holden today as well as OIB.  Got some nice ones from the pier in Holden and then we went out in OIB.  Came back to MB and thought the squalls had really began to move in on us but Irene let up for a while and gave us great speedy lines for all to enjoy!!!  Picuteres below are of both MB and Holden today and there's a slideshow link for flickr too!  Have fun be safe and enjoy...... Irene in Ocean Isle

Made the trip up to OIB with Lance this morning and then back this afternoon.  Swell was reallly beginning to fill in and the morning session was my fav, although the afternoon was still about the same but the tide and wind made for tricky lines.  Sorry no footage of the am session as I was in the water the whole time and didn't shoot til we were leaving.  The waves were fun and hopefully we'll have a little of the same maybe for the am tomorrow.  enjoy......

Irene where ya gonna be

Irene has some things in her favor of becoming a cat. 3 storm.  First off there's a lot of very warm water to help strengthen and a wobbly bermuda high as well as some upper levels that are kind of creating a alley way with the northern coastline of South carolina at the center.  Please remember that storms like this have a lot of run-up water before an actual storm surge.  Ok, now for surf..... well...maybe Friday but don't expect anything come Saturday unless you wanna get tossed around in 20foot victory at sea conditions.  Winds are increasing from Thursday on through Sunday and will probably top out at a nasty 100 mph or higher.  Don't be stupid!  http://www.hurricanetrack.com/

you say you're gonna paddle into that?

if you did not know, I also work at a local eatery from time to time and a guest last night posed this question to me as we were talking about my escapades in the water and how excited I was that a storm was in our region. not wishing any storm to make landfall but only produce some swell, he just did not understand how someone would paddle into rough water, a golfer, I had to ask him how he feels when hits that sweet spot and the ball just flys down the fairway and explain I get that same feeling riding a 6 foot glassy wall of a left hand swell!   hopefully we'll have some swell in our driving distance all week!
